Tail Ramp Powerpack Single Acting Complete Hydraulics Package
Hydraulic Tailgate Kit contains; a high-quality Single acting, (Gravity lowers the ramps), DC Power Pack with Australian Made Double Acting Cylinders with safety 'Burst valves' plus a pendant cable controller, hose & fittings & adapters. This is a ready-to-fit package for your beaver tail, step deck, or low loader.
Powered by your choice of 12 or 24 Volt DC this Hydraulic Power Pack is ready to fit where you prefer to use a cable pendant controller.(see other listings for lever operated double acting). It is an ideal tail ramp power/control unit. The rams, hose & fittings are included.
This SA powerpack is designed to supply an oil flow of 5 Lt/Min at a Pressure of 2800 PSI.

When you press the down button, the powerpack will not start, but the ramps will lower with gravity. The powerpack has an inbuilt adjustable 'flow control' knob, to allow you to set descent speed. Pressing the Up button, will auto power up the powerpack. The ramps will raise at different rates to the top. They will then hydraulically lock in place when buttons are released.
Please note with this set up, ramps are hydraulically locked, & a heavy machine in mud can actually bend Ram rods if ramps sink or are not supported firmly on the ground. Click here to see our D/A Float ramp package D/A ramp package

Also supplied are safety 'burst' valves which insert into the bottom ram ports. These stop the ramps falling if ever a hose is ripped of. Please keep in mind all DC power packs use a lot of amperages & create a lot of heat. They are designed only for intermittent use. See the bottom of this page for an estimate of the duty cycle.
How Do I Work Out What Stroke Rams I Need?
The measurements of the ram you need to take note of, are the 'open & closed' sizes. These are measured from pin to pin with the ram fully closed & then fully extended. Mark a spot on the rear of the trailer where you are going to weld your 1" thick ram bottom mount. Then, mark a spot up on the ramps for the top mount, ie for a 28” ram, mark at 1733mm with ramp in an upright position. If possible weld mount where the ram is fully extended, this way, the ram 6-tonne force is contained on full extension. Then, drop the ramp on the ground, and use our given 'closed' measurements to mark in pen or tape a spot on the ramp. Keep in mind, you need to leave a few inches of the rod showing when the ramp is on the ground, to allow for uneven ground, etc. Then lift the ramp, & again use our 'Open measurement to see what ram has the closest open & closed measurements to suit your build. There are two photos of a customer's ramps below. These rams are a 28" stroke. As you can see when ramps are on flat hard ground, there are several inches of ram travel left. This means if ramps ever had to be lowered onto sloping ground, they could further descend.

Safety thermistors are installed in motor windings to prevent overheating.
